Organic Pitchfork cheddar has a dense, soft, creamy and flaky texture and is distinguished by its full-bodied flavour (Extra Mature) with a succulent and lactic bite.
In 2019, Pitchfork Cheddar was awarded Best Mature Traditional Cheddar and Best Extra Mature cheddar at the World Cheese Awards in Bergamo, Italy. Voted 4th best Cheese in the World and Britain's best cheese.
Organic Pitchfork Cheddar is made only 5 miles away from Cheddar itself, using traditional methods before being cloth-bound with lard. The name 'Pitchfork' originates from the way in which cheddar was historically made, when old farming tools were used to toss the curd whilst mixing in the sale. Similar methods today with contemporary additions to this heritage process are still used. Pitchfork is matured for an exceptional 10 -12 months, to develop its signature flavour.
The milk now comes from a single herd of organic, pasture fed Holstein-Friesian and Jersey cows, giving them uniquely flavoured milk with an extra creamy content thanks to the Jersey’s rich milk.
